Sony has officially confirmed the upcoming launch of Project Q, a handheld device that will allow players to stream games from their PS5 consoles. The announcement came during Sony's PlayStation Showcase event, with Jim Ryan, the president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment.
Project Q, set to launch later this year, is described as a dedicated device that enables users to stream any game from their PS5 via remote play over Wi-Fi. The device features is an 8-inch HD screen and includes all the buttons and features of the DualSense wireless controller, which is the standard controller for the PS5. Sony plans to share more information about Project Q in the near future.
In terms of the design, Project Q deviates from the traditional gaming handheld concept. It resembles a PlayStation controller with an 8-inch screen positioned in the middle. This unique design is reminiscent of the recently announced Backbone One PlayStation Edition smartphone controller. Project Q can be considered as a PS5 accessory or peripheral rather than a standalone gaming handheld.

The device represents Sony's continued investment in cloud gaming systems and demonstrates its confidence in the future of remote gaming. The screen boasts a 1080p resolution with 60fps playback, streaming directly from the user's PS5 console. The controller features the DualSense's innovative capabilities, including haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.
Jim Ryan emphasized the popularity and power of the PS5 console, expressing excitement about pushing its advanced capabilities to the limit. He mentioned Sony's commitment to innovation with hardware like the upcoming PlayStation VR2 and Project Q. Additionally, Sony's expansion into PC, mobile, and live service gaming is transforming how and where players can enjoy their content.

While specific details such as pricing and an official name for Project Q are yet to be announced, Sony also revealed their first official wireless earbuds during the event. These earbuds promise lossless, low-latency audio, specifically tuned for gaming. Aside from gaming, they can also be connected to PCs or smartphones. Given Sony's track record in the headphone market, users can expect high-quality sound from these earbuds.
As Sony continues to unveil more information about Project Q and its wireless earbuds, gaming enthusiasts eagerly await further updates on these exciting additions to the PlayStation ecosystem.
